What supplies did you use to make the earrings?

Base metal hooks and head pins. Orange glass beads and orange/pink bugle beads and gold look spacer beads and base metal earwires which I later changed to 14k gold wires for the recipient who was allergic to the first wires.

I am a beginner at making earrings and I enjoy it very much. I started by buying a good 'how to' picture book, an earring kit and basic tools. I have made earrings for all the ladies at my last place of employment, relatives, friends, and of course, myself.

What techniques did you use to make the earrings?

This project came about when I bought the chandelier findings. I wanted to make something really nice. They ended up fancier than anything I could wear but as they evolved I knew who would get them. The designing was the hardest part of the project, but I love the way they turned out.

Tips and Tricks

  • Experiment with layouts until you are absolutely happy with the design, then start putting them on the headpins. Saves wasting headpins.
  • I haven't really got many. Too new at this to know a lot of what to do right. I'm learning as I go along.

What do you think make these earrings so special?

I love the look of East Indian women with their gorgeous earrings. They look fabulous on the right person and I was so happy to give mine to a lady who really needed a 'pick me up' at a very sad time in her life. They were made for her.
