What supplies did you use to make the earrings?
Japanese Seed Beads, Swarovski Crystal, Czech Glass Firepolish & Daggers, Tierra Cast Spacers and/or Bead Caps. This style of earring is open for any interpretation. Create the top and then put whatever you'd like in the fringe.
What techniques did you use to make the earrings?
Modified Brick Stitch and Fringing. This style was often called Cheyenne Earrings. To modify the brick stitch Pick up two beads at the start of each row & this will keep your thread from showing along the outside edge of the triangle. It just looks so much nicer!
Tips and Tricks
- Use lots of different colors, sizes and textures to add character.
- Keep your fringe fluid but not too loose.
- If using crystals or bugles be sure to use a sturdy stringing material.
- Keep in mind the size of beads you add to the fringe as they can make the earring heavy.
What do you think make these earrings so special?
I've been making this style of earring for 30 years now. As a hippie chick from CA they helped me get from one Dead show to the next. After that they helped me to start my bead store which will be 25 this year! They also comfort me and make me feel happy, like an old pair of slippers.
