What supplies and materials did you use?
I used glass bugle beads, 3mm glass rounds, and large faceted glass rounds.
What techniques did you use?
I started out making beads with a right angle weave and thought I would try something with a bugle. What I got was a cube (an awesome cube). As I was trying to figure out what to do with it I started popping beads in and out of the cube absentmindedly and all of a sudden one stuck. The end result looked so cool I tried to link a bunch together for a bracelet. The cubes are pretty heavy so to keep them from sliding around or turning sideways it pretty much needs to be on elastic stretch cord. It eliminated the need for a clasp which would interrupt the design. I am in love with this bracelet and it is one of my most purchased items. It's totally customizable and I love it! I kept the very first one I ever made for myself because I love it so much :)
Advice
- This bracelet is what made me learn how to price things out not so much based on materials, but on my time spent as well. After I had an order for three at one time that had to be done in a day I realized how much effort I really put into it. It is not a two minute project by any means. I also learned that using a bead thread instead of a wire meant that I could interweave the ends back through more times making my cubes more stable than they would have been with the thicker steel wire.
Why do you think this bracelet has become a favorite?
I am so proud of this mostly because it came about as an accident. Sometimes the very best pieces are the opposite of what you were trying to do.
