Storage Closet and Storage shelving with display

Where have you set up your jewelry work space?

I have taken over two rooms in my house. This is my full time job, so I feel I am justified in using this much space. It is a way of honoring my career as a jewelry artist. One room is the storage/workroom/classroom and the other room is office and area for photographing jewelry pieces.

How did you organize it?

I am fortunate to have a small walk in closet in the workroom. I gutted that closet and installed shelving floor to ceiling. This space is packed with supplies, display props and tools. I found a armoire at a garage sale and spray painted it the same color as the walls in the workroom which now houses a ton of beads. It's right behind the chair I work in, so I can just spin around and find a bead I need. On the work table, also a garage sale find, I placed a small end table that now houses a plastic drawer unit filled with tools and a lot more necessary work stuff. I also built a long narrow shelf that runs down the middle of the work table out of a board and two wooden candle sticks for the more frequently used tools. This shelf got a lot of items off the table and provided a place for the Propane and Oxygen tanks to tuck under for the torch.

What I'd Do Differently

  • I would have been much more aggressive about claiming a large area of the basement. My darling husband has filled that space with his hobby of restoring cars and I don't think I have a chance. I'm not giving up hope though.

Do you have any future changes for this space?

I'm a big believer in change and have a furniture rearrangement in mind right now. It will take a day to do it and I've been too busy getting ready for a show to have that day. Oh, and I have a dream

Do you have any organization tips to share?

Have a place for everything and put beads, tools, whatever away at the end of each project or after every show. The hardest thing I fight all of the time is putting beads away. It's really important.

Anything else you'd like to share about it?

Make your work place pretty. Really think about the colors and decorate. You spend a lot of time there, claim it as your true space. Oh, and have your tunes and tv. Make your work space a living space you can enjoy.
