Metal is not the only material you can use to make a chain. You can also use yarn and a super easy crochet stitch called (appropriately) the chain stitch. To practice, you just need a little yarn and your choice of a crochet hook. If you are new to crochet, then I suggest using a medium size needle and weight of yarn. Anything too thick or too thin may make it more difficult to work with in the beginning.

In the pictures used for this tutorial, I'm using a size "I" hook (5.5mm), and the yarn is Worsted medium.
