Introduction & Supplies

I love it when I can take my jewelry making skills and use them to make something other than jewelry. It’s even better when I can combine it with another love I have. Not only do I have a passion for jewelry, but I’m a major bibliophile. This great project allows me to connect jewelry making to books by creating this pretty bead and wire bookmarker. These hooks are available in a variety of metal finishes and each has a hole at the end of the curved section, allowing you to dangle all kinds of goodies from them.

While you can follow the steps in this project, there are a huge number of possible designs you can create by using beads, wire, and these cool shepherd’s hook bookmark findings. Brenda Sue from B’sue Boutiques sent me some to play around with, along with some fun metal stamped charms and a finished bookmark of her own (which you'll see on the last page of this project).

For this bookmark project (you can see a finished picture of it on page 7 - scroll down and you'll see a link if you want a quick peek), you’ll need the following:

1 gold-plated shepherd’s hook bookmark finding
4 gold-filled jump rings
24 inches of 20 gauge gold-filled round wire
1 brass heart stamped charm
1 12mm clear crystal bead
1 8mm light pink crystal bead
1 8mm clear crystal bead
1 6mm light pink crystal bead
round-nosed pliers
flat or bent-nosed pliers
wire cutters
jeweler’s file
