Introduction and Materials

Some jewelry makers are fanatics about making sure their wire wraps are perfect. While we aren’t a machine, I tend to be one of those types. I’m not saying my wraps are perfect, but I usually try.

However, what about tossing perfect out the door and going for messy wraps? I have to admit, these actually look cool sometimes depending on the finished piece of jewelry. I think they can give a piece character.

The supplies listed below are for the jewelry item pictured, but obviously, you could use your own choice of briolette bead and wire.

You’ll need:
1 – 12mm cherry quartz briolette bead
5 to 6 inches of 24-gauge soft gold-filled round wire
2 pairs of flat-nosed pliers
Round-nosed pliers
Wire cutters
Jewelers’ file
