Introduction & Materials

Nothing is more rewarding when making jewelry than to be able to claim that you made 95% of a jewelry design, that you hand-fabricated it yourself. While this Coin Pearl and Stick Chain Necklace project is not necessarily for a beginner, the techniques are relatively simple. They just take some practice.

You’ll need:

1 – 10mm coil pearl bead
2 – 6mm opal Swarovski crystal beads
1 – 5mm sterling jump ring
6 inches of 24-gauge sterling round dead-soft wire
1 eye component
1 wrapped hook clasp
*3-4 feet of 20-gauge sterling round dead-soft wire
**Nylon-nosed pliers
Flat-nosed pliers
Round-nosed pliers
Wire cutters
Jeweler’s file

*Dead-soft works fine for this design because of the light-weight nature of this necklace. However, if you were to attach a heavier pendant to the chain you make in this project, I would consider using dead-soft or work hardening the wire.

**I found nylon-nosed pliers are really helpful when making the chain in this project because you can straighten wire as you work. This will also work-harden the wire some.
