This Organic Ring project ($7.95) is one of the many downloadable pdf handouts sold through the Beadshop.com web site. Rings can be tricky sometimes to make with wire when you are talking about wire wrapping versus soldering, so this is a project geared for wire wrappers. The materials used to construct this ring includes about a foot of 16-gauge wire and one 10mm bead. The bead used in the project is one of those interesting wire wrapped looking beads that have holes all through them, but you could also substitute a large gemstone or even crystal bead as long as the bead hole was large enough to accommodate the wire, which is pretty thick.

This project is probably for an intermediate level jewelry maker as it would be helpful to have some experience using a ring mandrel. Also, 16-gauge wire is pretty thick, so that's another reason I feel a total beginner might be overly challenged with this project.

Like all the virtual classroom material created by Beadshop.com, this 15-step handout includes step by step illustrated instructions and a complete list of required tools and supplies. I like how they used two colors of metal, silver and gold, for this ring as well as the fact that the design could be used with a variety of different beads and thus create a lot of different looks.
