Wire and Bead Ear Hook Tutorial

Tammy Powley
Once you learn to make a basic pair of ear hooks such as the ones described in my Make Your Own Ear Hooks project, you can start to use your imagination and create some variations with this basic design. For the beaded variation, the added step is pretty simple, but the results are really cool because you are able to customize the ear hook to match the rest of the earring.

You'll need all of the same supplies and tools as you do for the Make Your Own Ear Hooks project; plus you'll need a bead for each ear hook. I normally use a 4mm bead that matches the beads or accents the beads that I plan to use with the rest of the earring. Again, use your imagination and experiment with this. However, keep in mind that the bead shouldn't be too large or it could make it difficult to put the ear hook in your ear hole. Of course, you could also compensate for this with a larger ear wire, but either way, this is something to consider when deciding on the final look that you want. If you also use a larger bead, you may want to start with a little longer piece of wire as well.
