Cold Heat Glue Gun

By Tammy Powley, About.com

Not every jewelry maker uses a glue as part of the jewelry making process, but if you do any kind of other crafts or make mixed media jewelry, then you probably find yourself needing to glue now and then. In fact, mixed media jewelry often requires gluing because of the unique mixture of materials used, depending on the project of course.

I would guess, then, that the average jewelry maker slash crafter has at least a few different glue bottles around and probably one or two glue guns. So, I was intrigued with idea of testing out the ColdHeat Freestyle Cordless Glue Gun ($29.95 US).

Two things struck me when I used this glue gun, most recently to make my Antique Filigree Pin project. First, it has a stand that charges the gun so then you have no cord to deal with. That is very handy, especially when you are working on small items like jewelry. Next, of course, is the fact that I wasn’t burning the crap out of my fingers, which is my usual MO when using glue guns.

It has a lot of other nifty features too: ergonomic designed; multi-finger trigger; rechargeable battery; anti-drip; fast cooling glue; power-save feature; low-battery indicator; and automatic shut off.

Now, if you rarely use a glue gun, then of course, the one you currently have is probably fine. However, if you are a major crafter, glue gun at the ready, then this high-tech version would probably get a lot of use in your house.
