Nylon-Nosed Pliers

By , About.com Guide

While I would not say that having a pair of nylon-nosed pliers is one hundred percent necessary to make wire jewelry, anyone who works a lot with wire will eventually find these pliers indispensable.

How many times have you goofed up a design and had to finally throw a piece of wire into the scrap bin? I have too many times. Now, with these pliers, you can actually straighten out the wire, and since the nose is nylon, the wire isn’t marked up.

They also work well when you want to work-harden your wire. For example, if you use dead-soft wire a lot, you can pull it through the jaws of the pliers a few times has a way to harden it a little. Since I make a lot of my own findings out of wire, I also use these to press pieces flat, so that's yet another way to use these.

I originally got my pair from Beadshop.com. However, just about any good bead shop or jewelry tool supplier tends to carry this tool these days.
