Selling Jewelry in Web Auctions Finding Technical Help

Selling Jewelry in Web Auctions

By Tammy Powley, About.com

If you’ve read any of my previous articles Exploring and Image Hosting about on-line auctions, then you may be starting to realize that some technical knowledge is necessary. Though you don’t have to be a computer whiz, obviously, the more you know the better.

In my opinion, you need to at least have a basic understanding of how the Internet works - specifically links and uploading of files. And you should have access to and understand how to use a flat-bed scanner or digital camera (if you plan to include pictures of your merchandise.) A little knowledge of HTML is helpful but not absolutely necessary. Knowing how to write your own links can be handy, but most auction sites are pretty much "fill in the blank" when setting up your auctions.

If you did want to learn a little HTML, I recommend the book HTML for Dummies Reference Guide and About.com’s HTML site which offers a lot of free information. So, know you don’t have to be a web head expert, but knowledge is power. And, who doesn’t like to have power?
