Make a Figure 8 Chain

Make Jump Rings

You’ll need to make a lot of jump rings. You can make as many as you like. The more you make the longer your chain can be. You’ll use the wire, wooden dowel, jeweler’s saw, bees wax, and files to make your jump rings as described in Proper and Quick Jump Ring Techniques. Once you have your jump rings made, you are ready to assemble and solder your chain.

Though you could skip the figure 8 part of this chain and simply make jump rings, it looks nice to alternate a jump ring with a figure 8 ring. If you decide that you do want to include the figure 8 rings, then you need to make them first. It takes some practice. At first, you’ll have a few mutilated jump rings. Also, if your solder joint isn’t strong, it will break. So, when filing the jump ring ends, it is very important to have them meet securely before soldering them closed.
