Definition: Resin is a type of synthetic material that has become very popular in jewelry making. You can purchase prefabricated resin components such as beads or pendants, or you can mix up your own resin for numerous purposes such as affixing items together, coating/covering items, or casting. The type of resin you select will depend on what you plan to make, so when shopping for resin mixes, make sure to carefully read the manufacturer's information before using.

Some example of using resin in jewelry designing include casting cabochons, adhering embellishments, or applying to surfaces.

One common trait of most types of resin is that there are two parts to it that must be mixed up before used, thus often to referred to as "two-part epoxy resin." One part of the product will be resin, and the other part is a hardener. They must be mixed together throughly, poured, and then left to sit undisturbed as it hardens.
