Make a Paper Clay Bead

By Tammy Powley, About.com

Introduction & Materials

One of the interesting techniques you can do with paper clay is to incorporate paint into the clay – literally. Sure, you can paint the outside, but by kneading the paint into the clay, you are mixing the two together rather than adding a coat of paint to the surface of the clay. I already have painted clay using acrylic paint, so I thought it was time to try this other technique.

A few words of warning – this is so (so) messy! Of course, acrylic paint will wash off, but if you are really going to do a large scale project or want to protect your hands, consider using gloves while working the paint into the clay.

You’ll need:
Red acrylic paint
Paper clay
Corsage pin
Piece of foam
Small paint brush
Sculpey glaze
Bowl of water
Paper towels
Waxed paper (for work surface)
