1) Have a bowl of water handy. This is helpful because you may find cracks in your clay as you work with it and it begins to dry some. By dipping your finger in the water and then rubbing it over the clay, it helps to heal small cracks in the clay.
2) Since you have water, paper towels are also handy because you may have a small mess on your hands and work area. You are using your hands a lot with this medium, so expect to get a little icky.
3) Waxed paper is very helpful to roll the clay onto and to use as a way to cover your work area. Also, when the clay dries, you can also leave it on wax paper.
4) If you cant wait for your clay to air dry, it is possible to dry it more quickly in a low temperature oven.
5) Have a zip lock bag handy to keep unused clay for a later time. This will help keep it from drying out. If your clay does seem a little dryer than the last time you used it, just re-dehydrate it with a little water.
