I had been making jewelry as a hobby for about a year. I took a jewelry making class at a local college night program. I had also taken candle making, and painting- just because I really relaxed while doing creative things. However, when I took the jewelry making class, I feel in love! I realized how fun it was to make jewelry, and was surprised at how easy it was to do, when someone was giving you all the right instructions and providing all the right beads, tools and components.
2. Did you ever trying selling finished jewelry before you began Luxe?
No, I didn't. Being a previous business owner, I always analyze the likelihood of making a profit first. To me, it didn't make sense to go that route, because no matter how hard I worked, it would be very unlikely that I would really generate a great income from trying to just sell my own finished jewelry. You can do an awful lot of work just to sell a few pieces. If you calculate all your time of sourcing, investment in marketing, etc... it didn't seem too profitable. It just didn't seem like what the market needed.
