Beader Finds Seed Beading Niche

By Tammy Powley, About.com

Making seed bead jewelry requires a good amount of skill and time. In fact, one reason many jewelry makers have difficulty selling their finished bead weaving jewelry is due to the amount of time it takes compared to other forms of jewelry making. It’s just very hard to be compensated for all the time it often takes to weave a piece of beaded jewelry together.

As a result, few bead weavers consider starting jewelry businesses. However, as I’ve said many times, there are many other alternatives to selling jewelry, and Sherry Wayt is a wonderful example of what I’ve been preaching. She was able to take her love of bead weaving and find a way to create a business model that worked for her. Sherry is the owner and creator of Ready to Bead, a jewelry company that sells a unique mix of finished jewelry and kits. Her website describes her company concept: “Ready To Bead specializes in providing top quality Ready to bead kits right to your door. The designers we work with strive to provide new and creative ideas that will inspire even the most experienced beader. Ready To Bead also sells some finished items for those of you that just can’t wait.”

I asked Sherry about how she started this “think-out-side-the-box” company. I’m sure you’ll find her answers inspirational. Click on the page numbers below for the complete interview.
