From my own limited experience with resin, it seems to me that with some experimentation the average jewelry designer can figure things out as she/he goes along. However, while the basics are pretty simple as far as how this medium works, there really is a lot to working with this material just as there are a lot of amazing design possibilities. What I like about Sherri Haab's DVD is that you can tell she's already done a lot the experimentation for you. Why reinvent the wheel when for a little over thirty dollars you can glean from her wealth of resin jewelry knowledge?
In her DVD, she covers a variety of techniques using various types of resin as she shows how to make finished jewelry pieces (such as the layered resin rings pictured). Each project includes step-by-step visual instructions, which Sherri demonstrates as she explains the methods she uses. She also has some great tips she includes along the way such as using car wax to shine up finished resin pieces and to remember to stir versus whip when combining resin and hardener to help prevent air bubbles.
This is a video I will watch again and again as I learn more about this fun medium. If you have wanted to get immersed in resin jewelry, then consider this is an alternative to experimenting on your own. For a few free previews of this DVD, go to the Creative Catalyst web site.
