Introduction and Materials

Bead stringing is a great place to start learning how to make jewelry. However, once you get the basics down, it’s not unusual for the average jewelry maker to start branching out into other jewelry genres such as wire work.

That’s what inspired jewelry designer, Judith Kogut, a friend of mine, to create this necklace which is a combination of stringing, wire, and lampwork beads, and she was generous enough to offer it here as a project for me to write up for readers of this site.

You’ll need the following:

*4 – 12mm pink swirl lampwork beads
10 – 4mm Swarovski fuchsia bicone crystals
10 – 4mm sterling daisy spacer beads
6 – 5mm sterling jump rings
1 – 5mm split ring
2 – 5mm sterling beads
4 – 2mm sterling beads
1 – 10mm sterling lobster claw clasp
50 – 1/4 inch sterling heishi beads
4 – 2x2mm sterling crimp beads
Approx. 3 feet of 22-gauge dead-soft sterling wire
2 - 15 inch pieces of .014 or .015 beading wire
Round-nosed pliers
Flat-nosed pliers
Wire cutters
Jeweler’s file
Crimping pliers

*The lampwork beads in this necklace were provided by glass artist, D.D. Hess.
