Chain Mail Bracelet CD

Chain Mail CDBeadshop.com
Nothing seems hotter lately in the jewelry world than chain mail, so Beadshop.com has timed its step-by-step CD class, Traditional Chain Mail Bracelet, perfectly. Available through the Beadshop.com website for $14.95 plus shipping, this virtual class is taught by one of its star designers, Colin Mahler, and while it is labeled “intermediate” for the skill level, I think beginners will also find a great deal of good information in this project. For example, the instructions that explain how to open and close jump rings (a real problem for many beginners) are extremely useful and easy to understand.

The project calls for about 150 jump rings, and does not explain how to make the rings. However, you can find this information on my site, or you can purchase pre-made rings from Beadshop.com or a host of other vendors. Each step is accompanied by a close-up color photograph that helps “show” while the directions tell you how to make the project piece. I think this is especially important with chain mail because the whole idea is that you are connecting links of chain to create a pattern of rings, and this can be tricky if you can’t see what you’re meant to do, just about impossible actually. In fact, to help illustrate the process, some of the rings are color coded, so you may even be able to just follow the pictures and get this one right.

Though the linked portion of the bracelet is gorgeous as is, the final touch includes adding wire wrapped bead dangles sprinkled throughout the links. I actually have a hard time deciding which I like best, with or without the beads!
