Treasure Bracelet DVD Workshop

By , About.com Guide

Sharilyn Miller has been on the traditional end of publishing for many years as both a magazine editor and book author in the arts and crafts industry. Many jewelry makers know and love her book Bead on a Wire. She also travels the world teaching her wire techniques to other jewelry lovers; however, Sharilyn has now joined the high-tech age and is focusing her attention on digital media through a number of DVD workshops. This is great news if you can't take one of her classes in person.

I had the opportunity to view her Tribal Treasures Bracelet Workshop ($29.95) DVD, and not surprisingly, it delivers in typical Sharilyn fashion. While the DVD focuses on make a bracelet, it actually covers a lot more than one bracelet project. She, of course, starts with the basics such as going over the tools and learning how to clean and measure wire. But, then it's off to techniques, some relate to the bracelet and other are just handy to know such as making ear hooks. However, most of the techniques (jump rings, dangles, wrapped eye-pins, and more) are then used to create the bracelet, which she calls Tribal Treasures because the finished design has a kind of ancient feel to it.

Other techniques that aren't necessarily related to wire jewelry construction but are very handy include a segment on usingliver-of-sulfur to oxidize the bracelet and then tumbling it in rock tumbler. Tribal Treasures Bracelet Workshop is 150 minutes long and can be purchased via Sharilyn Miller's web site where you can also find information about her face-to-face workshops as well.
