What’s a Blog?

Blogging & Jewelry Making

By , About.com Guide

A blog is similar to an on-line journal or log, thus the term “weblog.” If you do a search on-line, you’ll find a plethora of blogs out there that cover every topic and every writing style. Some blogs offer newsworthy information while others are more personal and discuss the every day happenings of an individual. And, by “every day,” I mean that almost literally because one reason blogging as become so popular is because it’s really easy to do, and so just like writing down thoughts and ideas in a hardcopy journal, bloggers can now quickly write up a blog entry, and within minutes, it’s live on the Internet for everyone to read. That, in fact, is one difference between most people’s journals and a blog. Normally, you might hide your journal under a pillow. It’s not meant to be shared, but a blog is meant to put yourself out there, a kind of public performance.
