Introduction and Materials

Side-drilled pearls – I love them, but I have to admit to finding them a tad challenging to design with, especially the tiny 3 and 4mm size. That is one of the inspirations for this earring design which incorporates pearls and beading wire to make a pair of hoop earrings that look almost invisible as they float on your ears.

10 – 3-4mm side-drilled pink pearls
8 – size 11 silver-colored seeds
2 – 6 inch pieces of .014 or .015 beading wire
2 – 2x2mm sterling crimp beads
Sterling ear hooks
Flat-nosed pliers
Wire cutters

Bead Goof Note and Tip: You’ll notice, if you look closely, that my beads look a little off as far as count in some of my scans. Yes, I goofed! After I made these, I noticed I had missed a seed bead, so here’s what I did, and you may find this tip helpful if this ever happens to you. I have to admit this isn’t the first time I’ve done this.

After I noticed I had missed a seed bead, I decided to get rid of the other seed beads. I did this by using my flat-nosed pliers and breaking the beads off the wire. Now, obviously, you can’t do this with every design, but I’ve done this a few times with success. It’s a heck of a lot better than remaking the piece all over again.
