Onyx and Sterling Hoop Earrings

Introduction & Materials

Nothing beats a big pair of hoops to make you feel special, and with wire and beads you can make them yourself pretty easily. I opted for the neutral tones of natural onyx mixed with a little smoky topaz sparkle, but you could use any combination of beads you like.

You’ll need:
18 inches of 20-gauge soft sterling round wire
*1 1/4 inch dowel (or bottle of correction fluid)
Raw hide hammer
Wire cutters
Jewelers’ file
Round-nosed pliers
2 Flat-nosed or chain-nosed pliers
4 – 6mm smoky topaz crystal beads
8 – 4mm sterling daisy spacer beads
2 – 12mm onyx barrel beads

*I used a bottle of correction fluid that I had around the house. Just about anything round that’s about one inch in diameter will do.
