Fuzzy Navel Fiber Cell Charm

By , About.com Guide

Introduction and Materials

I love the combination of sparkle and soft texture in these felt rings from Ornamentea.com. They just demand a project that is fun. While this same technique could easily be altered to make earrings or a pendant, I decided to make something I could carry with me everyday, a cell phone charm. The idea of a fuzzy navel came after I made it and realized that the fibers around the ring are kind of fuzzy.

To make your own, you’ll need:

1 pink felt ring (item # BAH015)
2 fuchsia colored 4mm bicone crystal beads
1 clear AB 6mm square crystal bead
*5 inches of 21-gauge gold-filled round half-hard wire
Wire cutters
Round-nosed pliers
Flat-nosed pliers
Jeweler’s files

*Note about wire: Because this is a cell charm and will get a lot of banging around and handling in general, I opted for half-hard. I used 21-gauge because it’s what I had handy, but it is also a good size for most beads. Alternative sizes would be 20-gauge (just make sure your beads fit on it) or 22-gauge.
