On the other side of the necklace, also about 5 inches down from the last bead, you need to make the loop part for the button to fit through. Make a loop on the end, and tie a very loose overhand knot to help form the loop, sort of looking like a hangman's noose.

Now, make sure the button fits through this hemp loop before you keep going. Also, hold the necklace up around your neck and make sure it fits comfortably. If it feels too tight or too loose, now is the time to adjust and move the loop.

Once you are sure the loop is the right size and on the right spot on the hemp cord, tighten the over hand knot.

Next, pick up the other piece of hemp cord, and make a duplicate loop on the end of the cord that is approximately the same size. It doesn't have to be exact, just pretty darn close will work fine.
