Introduction to Macrame
Retro Choker Tammy Powley
If you wanted to get started making jewelry, macrame has a lot of promise. It doesn’t take a lot of supplies or tools, the basics are pretty easy to learn, and it always seems to be in style.

Back in the 70s, I was very into macrame. I remember making plant hangers, wall hangings, and, of course, lots of jewelry. Here’s a picture of an actual choker necklace that somehow survived from my macrame glory days .

To get the supplies you need to get started, it can cost as little as $20. Many of the items are available in local craft stores as well as some discount stores, so they are also fairly easy to find.
