Wire Wrapped Stick Chain

By , About.com Guide

1 of 8

Introduction & Materials

You don't need to solder to make your own chain. All you need is some wire and a few hand tools. This simple chain pattern incorporates the wrapped loop technique. Make it as long or as short as you like depending on the finished look you want.

You'll need:

*a few feet of 20 to 21-gauge gold-filled half-hard round wire
Wire-cutter
Round-nosed pliers
Flat-nosed pliers
Jeweler's file
Ruler

*The amount of wire you need will depend on how long a chain you want to make. Each wire section requires approximately 3 inches of wire. I recommend half-hard. It is a little harder to work with than soft, but since this is a chain you want it to be strong. If you use soft, you may want to use a block or rawhide mallet to work harden your wire.
