As the title indicates, this book is structured as a guide for those first venturing into this hobby. In fact, Campbell starts with one of the first things a new beader might do: visit a bead shop. Back when I first started stringing, there were no bead shops around, but today, just about any good sized town has one, and when you think about it, especially for the uninitiated, visiting a bead store for the first time can be a challenge. What are all those little trays and plastic bags at the entrance for? Should you buy a strand of beads or buy them separately? These are some of the questions tackled in the first section of the book.
From there, Campbell covers all the basics: starting and finishing jewelry pieces; creating designs; incorporating a focal bead; making earrings; developing more designs; and sharing tips. Included are more then 25 projects, assisted with lots of colorful illustrations.
