After I started looking more closely at the bracelet, I realized the jump rings looked too thin to handle the heavy chain of the bracelet. They just didnt look right and I was concerned that even after soldering the rings (since he wears this every day) eventually, they would break. Also, the claps looked like it was getting ready to go. It didnt seem to close completely flush, and though it still worked, I could tell with wear that it was on its way to breaking.
I decided to use some thicker copper wire to make new jump rings for the bracelet. Then I soldered these onto both ends of the bracelet to replace the rings she had added. As far as the clasp, even though I was VERY tempted to make a new one for it. (I think a double wire hook would look nice). I decided not to add a new hook with out asking her about it. She asked me to "just solder some jump rings" not "redesign the bracelet."
I explained to her that the clasp looks like it might break soon so she could warn her father-in-law, and I offered to add a new clasp if they would like. But, I kept my repair to fixing the jump rings as asked. Shes a good friend and I did this as a favor, but even if she were paying me, I didn't want to assume anything.
