Rock Slab for Making Cabochons

Tammy Powley
You start with a slab of stone. If you’ve ever been to a rock show, you’ve probably seen these displayed in buckets of water. This is in order to help get more of an idea of what the stone will look like when polished. If you have a rock saw (another no-so-cheap piece of equipment), you can cut these yourself. Basically, the saw cuts slices of the rock, but as I said, you don't have to do this. You can find lots of slabs available at rock shows and rock shops.
