Snap-Tite

By Tammy Powley, About.com

These settings are currently available from Rio Grande and Fire Mountain. You match the size of the stone to the size of the setting. So, if you want to mount a 5mm stone, you order a 5mm pendant. The name explains basically how the stone is set into the setting. When pressure is applied by pushing the setting against the stone, it snaps into the setting.

My sister made me a sterling and citrine pendant using one of these types of settings. She said it was very easy to snap into the setting. She additionally pushed down the prongs onto the stone using a pair of pliers. Though her instructions didn’t say to do this, she felt the extra touch made the pendant more secure. I’ve had the pendant now for a few years and have no problem with the stone coming out.
