Patriotic Pearl and Crystal Earrings

Tammy Powley
Of course, I had to make some earrings to match my Patriotic Pearl and Crystal Necklace. Since three different types of beads were used in the necklace, I decided to use three beads in the earrings and use wraps and loops to create a hinged effect. This allows for lots of movement in the finished design.

You will need:

2 sterling Euro-wire (aka lever-back) earring hooks
2 - 6mm Red cathedral beads
2 - 6mm Blue cathedral beads
2 - 4mm Pearls
4 Eye pins
2 Head pins
Wire cutters
Chain-nosed pliers
Round-nosed pliers

1. Start by adding one red bead to an eye pin.

2. Then use the wrapped loop technique to attach this to a Euro-wire.

3. Now add one pearl to an eye pin, and create a simple loop on the straight end of the pin.

4. Use round nosed pliers to slightly open the eye part on the bottom of the red bead that you worked with in step one, slip the pearl part onto this eye, and close the eye back.

5. Now repeat steps 3 and 4 above for the blue bead except this time, use a head pin instead of an eye pin, and then attach it to the bottom of the pearl section.

6. Repeat all the steps above to create your second earring.

While I could have used the wrapped loop technique for all sections of this three-section design, I opted to just do it at the top of the earring. Wraps can add length to a piece, and I did not want my earrings to be very long.
