Dancing Beads

I don't know if you've seen these fun, magnetic beads or not, but many bead stores now carry them. I got mine from Soft Flex. They come in both gold and silver color and can be mixed in with other beads to create some very quick jewelry designs. The most obvious way to use them is by creating an illusion look necklace or bracelet.

Here's an example of how they can be quickly slipped on to some Soft Flex wire, along with some glass beads, to create the illusion design. Once you have them in place, they don't move to easily unless you slide them around with your fingers. So you could also incorporate that idea into your piece and have the wearer move the beads to create different looks each time they wear the piece.

I found these pretty easy to use, but there are a few tricks to remember.

1) They are magnetic, so they can "dance" around pretty easily. When working with them, pull a few apart, a move the rest away from your hands while you try to string them on.
2) You'll notice that they will also stick to the beading wire, so keep a good grip on the very end of the wire when threading it through the beads.
3) These are pretty strong, but I've noticed they work best with smaller beads. I tried using them with an 8mm lampwork bead, and they just weren't strong enough.
I'm sure if you used your imagination, you could come up with some interesting ways to add these unusual beads to your designs.
