Not Just for Kids

Adults aren't the only ones that enjoy creating jewelry. Children also enjoy making wearable art, and in fact, they can be surprisingly creative. However, it's not always that easy to find projects geared toward a younger generation. Luckily,
Lapidary Journa l realized this need and recently has published a special issue just for children entitled
Step by Step Kids Jewelry Projects. This first issue came out on newsstands around the middle of November 2002, just in time for holiday gift making. It's packed with 23 projects, contributed by 10 different jewelry artists (including myself), that range from the super easy to the more advanced, but all projects are great for children or even the novice jewelry maker. Seed beads, glass beads, stone beads, wire, clay, and memory wire are just a few of the components used, so there's something for everyone. All projects include a tool and supply list and well illustrated, easy-to-follow instructions. There's even an inspirational jewelry contest that children can enter. Just about any bookstore or bead store that normally carries
Lapidary Journal should have this special issue available. So, if you have some aspiring jewelry artists at home or want some instant gratification projects to try yourself, make sure you pick up a copy soon.
