| You Can "Make It Profitable" | |
|
Many jewelry makers, like myself, are either trying to sell their jewelry or wish to do so one day. Some of us even make a living or at least supplement our income in this way. Selling hand-crafted jewelry is a tough business. So, any time we can find help learning more about the business side of our art, it's always appreciated. I recently acquired a copy of Barbara Brabec's newest book, Make It Profitable. The subtitle is "How to Make Your Art, Craft, Design, Writing, or Publishing Business More Efficient, More Satisfying, and More Profitable."
Interesting Book Format:
While starting my jewelry business a number of years ago, I scoured libraries and books stores for books that could help me. That's when I first discovered Barbara's long list of helpful publications. Some titles you might have heard of include Homemade Money and Creative Cash. So, I was really excited to hear about the latest addition, Make it Profitable. And, I was not disappointed. Not only does this new book offer some great advice, I really liked how it was collected. Barbara provides a lot of advice she has gleaned throughout the years, but she has also provides advice and comments from people who are selling their work right now. This includes a long list of craft people from jewelry makers to graphic artists. Some of the jewelry related artists she worked with include Jan McClellan of Heirloom Jewelry and Joyce Birchler of A Glass Act. Each is presented as a networking session, so everyone is actually talking and discussing chosen topics as if they are all together on a forum.
