Va Va Va Voom Turquoise

Since making my Simple Turquoise Necklace, I had the urge to make something that would really stand out, and this chunky design is definitely noticed. Thus, I call it Va Va Va Voom!

You'll need the following:

16 inches of turquoise chip beads
1 large oval turquoise bead
4 inches of chain (I used figaro.)
2 - 2 inch sterling head pin
2 - 4mm daisy spacer bead
approx. 8-10 inches of 20 gauge round wire
green or blue nylon beading thread #4 with attached needle
2 bead tips
jeweler's cement
round-nosed pliers
flat-nosed pliers
scissors

I used sterling silver findings and wire to create this piece.

1. Begin by creating the turquoise pendant just as I described in the Simple Turquoise Necklace, and set this aside for later.

2. Now, take your beading thread and attach a bead tip to one end. Add some jeweler's cement inside of the shell before closing it. This is a fairly heavy necklace, so I do recommend adding the glue.

3. Once your bead tip is attached, start threading on your turquoise chips until you have about 7 ½ inches of chips strung. 4. Slide on the pendant you made in step one.

5. Then continue adding 7 ½ inches more of chips to your thread.

6. Finish off with your second bead tip, and set the necklace aside for a moment.

7. Create a flower/clover clasp using the 20 gauge wire.

8. Use more wire to create a wire flower.

9. Then attach the flower clasp to one bead tip and the wire flower to the other bead tip. These are your claps.

10. At this point, you can stop, but if you'd like to add a little chain, this will allow you to alter the length of the necklace. Use your other head pin, slip on a turquoise chip, and make a wrap loop, but before closing the loop, slip on a few inches of chain.

11. Take some wire, make another wrap loop on one end, and make sure to add the other end of the chain from the previous step before wrapping the loop closed.

12. Slip on another turquoise chip, and again, wrap the end with a loop, adding some more chain before closing the loop. 13. Open one of the loop in your flower.

14. Finally, slip the chain onto this loop and close it back up.

I made this necklace for a friend of mine, and she's always getting compliments on it. Turquoise looks great with white, black, red, just about any color these days. So this is a piece that can be worn and enjoyed often.
