Back to School

No matter how experienced, how talented, or how creative a jewelry artist can be, we all have to agree that we are never finished learning about making jewelry. Going back to school provides artists with the opportunity to learn new techniques and to experiment with new ideas. The most often asked question I receive in emails is concerning finding jewelry making classes. So, this has been a subject I have dedicated a lot of time to, and there is a lot of information on my site. Here are some links that will help you find both class on-line and off.

Finding Classes - By using some handy resources, like your own phone, you can find local classes in your area. I’ve done it in small cities and large cities. It takes a lot of phone calls, and you may feel like a private investigator at times, but it could be well worth your time. I provide you with a number of tips to help you find classes near you.

Beginners’ Corner - If you’re new to jewelry making, then this is the first place you should take a look at on my site. I’ve got it full of information and projects that include step by step instructions and lot of pictures. It’s like having your own personal jewelry making tutor on-line.

On-Line Classes - With the power of the Internet, you can take classes from the comfort of your PC. From beading to working with metal, here are links to sites that might offer a class or two you’ll want to sign up for.

Education Subject - I’ve been collecting links to jewelry schools and programs from all over the world now for years. You might find out there’s a school near you didn’t even know about. Or, you might consider taking an educational vacation.

Glass Classes - So many jewelry makers want to try glass, but get frustrated because they can’t find classes. Many bead stores now offer classes in fusing and lampworking and will even have glass teachers come to teach if there are enough students. However, if you still can’t find glass classes near you, then consider traveling for your glass experience. I’ve got links to a number of places that offer lampworking and fusing classes.

Topical List - Finally, if you have scoured your area and have no way to travel, consider teaching yourself new techniques by accessing the huge list of articles and projects available on my site in this Topical List. Whether it be beading, wire work, silversmithing, macrame, casting, you name it, you’ll find a section that will interest you.
