PC Stamped Pendant

You wouldn’t normally connect rubber stamps with jewelry making, but when combined with polymer clay, you can create a wide range of possibilities. I’ve made this PC Stamp Pendant, but you could also use this technique to create earrings, beads, cabs. You name it.

You’ll need:

white or translucent Sculpey III ®
polymer clay setup
small stamp (mine is ¾" x ¾")*
pigment ink stamp pad - black
markers
acrylic spray sealer
corsage pin
craft wire (34 gauge works well)
accents beads (if you like)
round nosed pliers
wire cutters
flat/bent nosed pliers

*I got these cute, little stamps at Wal-mart for about $6. They are made by Stamp Craft(c), came in a set of six which included a dragonfly, butterfly, lady buy, bumble bee, and two flower stamps.

1. Kneed and then roll out your clay between wax paper so that the clay is about ¼ inch thick.

2. Peel off the clay from the paper, and set it on a cutting board.

3. Press your stamp into your pigment ink.

4. Now carefully press the stamp into your clay, and pull it out. You need to be careful because once the ink is on the clay that’s it. If you mess up, you need to find a clean piece of clay and do it again because the ink will not come off of the clay.

5. Now use a knife and cut out a square around your stamped image. Depending on how you cut your clay and position your stamp, you can either cut it out in the shape of a square or diamond.

6. Use the corsage pin to make a hole at the top of your piece.

7. Once you make all the stamped pieces you want, bake them for 15-20 minutes at 275 degrees F.

8. Let them cool.

9. After they are completely cool, use your markers to color in the design and background of the square.

10. To finish the stamped pieces, use some scrap wire to go through the holes in the clay pieces (so your holes don’t get clogged with the spray), and spray with an acrylic sealer. You’ll need to do this or the colors will rub off. Let the sealer dry before continuing.

11. Now, use some wire to create a head pin by first cutting a piece a few inches in length.

12. Then use round nosed pliers to make a large loop on the end, and slip the clay piece onto the wire.

13. Use flat nosed pliers to wrap the wire around itself.

14. If you want, add a few beads as embellishments.

15. Now again make a loop and wrap the wire around itself in order to complete the pendant.

Stamps are fun, and using them with clay can add a lot to your jewelry creations.
