Double Button & Bead Pin

Buttons are great additions to jewelry making. However, I thought it would be challenging to create a jewelry piece using buttons that didn’t look like it was made from buttons. That’s how I developed this "Double Button & Bead Pin."

You’ll need:

1 large button (approx. 1 inch diameter)
1 smaller button (approx. ½ inch diameter)
beading needle & thread
choice of seed beads
some tear drop beads or other embellishments
scissors
pin back
E6000 glue

1. Set the smaller button on top of the larger button and line up the holes.

2. Thread your needle through the lined up holes, and tie 2 over hand knots to secure the buttons together.

3. Bring the needle back up through the top button.

4. Thread on some seed beads. Around 10 - 15 for size 11 seed beads works well.

5. Thread the needle back down through the holes in both buttons.

6. Loop the needle through the knots you tied on the back of the button in step 2.

7. Bring the needle back up through another hole of the buttons.

8. Repeat steps 3 - 7 in order to make more loops. You loops don’t need to be the same size. My loops had any where from 10 - 15 beads on different loops, and my finished piece had a total of 10 loops in varying sizes.

9. Once you’ve finished your loops, consider adding a little fringe. I used the same technique for added fringe to my pin that I used in my Fringe Earrings 101 project.

10. Finish off the thread by making a few extra over hand knots on the back as you did in step 2, and trim off excess thread.

11. When you’ve finished your loops and fringe, use E6000 glue to attach a pin back to the back of your larger button.

Make this project your own by adding all kinds of embellishments such as stone beads, crystals, or even dangle charms from your pin.
