Coiling Pony Tail Holder

This is a quick and simple project even your kids could help you with. The curly, coiling wires could also be attached to a barrette if you’d rather use that instead of the elastic pony tail holder.

You’ll need:

1 thick elastic pony tail holder
18 inches of craft wire
mixture of seed beads
small, shallow bowl
wire cutters
round nosed pliers
flat/bent nosed pliers
small wood dowel or pencil

1. Start by cutting your wire into 3 pieces that around about 6 inches long each.

2. Pour your mixture of beads into a small, shallow bowl.

3. Use round nosed pliers to curl one end of one of the wires.

4. Use your fingers to slightly bend the other end of the wire.

5. Now use the bent end of the wire and scoop it into your bowl of beads.

6. Continue scooping until you have all the wire covered except about 1 ½ inches of wire.

7. Curl the other end of the wire, and push the beads to both ends so the middle of the wire is not covered in beads.

8. Repeat steps 3 - 7 for the other two pieces of wire.

9. Now hold all three pieces of beaded wire together in the middle where there are no beads.

10. Use flat nosed pliers to assist you in twisting the middle of the wires together.

11. Now wrap this twisted segment of wire around the elastic pony tail holder, and twist all the wires together so the are securely around the elastic. It’s okay if it slips back and forth around the elastic.

12. Get a pencil or I also use a small crochet hook, and wrap each piece of wire - 6 total - around the hook in order to make each coil.

Use your jewelry making skills to create all kinds of coiling hair jewelry by attaching this to barrettes, bobby pins, or other types of hair accessories.
