Prom Queen Earrings

A young friend of mind asked me to create some special jewelry for her to wear to the prom. While she isn't the prom queen, I thought she should at least feel like one, so I created these special earrings for her. Her dress is purple, so that's why we went with the two tones of purple in the crystals and pearls. I thought hearts would be a good touch since she's so young. They turned out to be elegant enough for her, but they still have a certain sort of innocence to them. Old or young, you can make these earrings for yourself or someone you'd like to feel like a queen.

You'll need:

2 sterling Eurowires
6 inches of 24 gauge round sterling wire
6 inches of 22 gauge round sterling wire
2 - 4mm light purple pearls
4 - 4mm dark purple Czech crystals
2 hematite hearts
round-nosed pliers
flat-nosed pliers
wire cutters

*Note:* I used two size of wire because the top section of the earrings include pearls, so normally 24 gauge is needed in order that the wire fits through the pearl hole. I used 22 gauge for the heart part of the earring because it's a little stronger than 24 gauge and thus more durable.

1. Begin with creating the heart dangle. Using the same technique I used for my Egg-celent Egg Earrings, create a triple loop on one end of our 22 gauge wire.

2. Slip on a heart bead, and use the loop technique to finish off the top of the wire.

3. Repeat steps 1 - 2 for the other heart bead.

4. Now, take your 24 gauge wire and again us the loop technique in order to attach the 22 gauge to one of the heart components you just made.

5. Slip one Czech crystal, one pearl, and another Czech crystal onto your 24 gauge wire.

6. Finish the top of the wire in the step above with the loop technique, remembering to attach the Eurowire to the loop before wrapping.

7. Repeat steps 4 - 6 above to finish your second earring.
