Closing the Bottom

Once you’ve sewn your ladders together, you will have a tube. Four ladders usually makes a good size amulet. However, you could use larger beads and not make as many ladders. To close up your tube, hold your tube so the ladders at the bottom line up against each other. Go through one of the ladder rungs with your needle and thread and leave a 6 inch tale to be woven in later. Insert your needle through the closest ladder loop. At this point, I like to make a small over hand knot going though one of the loops between the ladder rungs. (Some seed beaders rarely knot, but sometimes I feel it is appropriate).

You will notice the loops between your ladder beads line up. Insert your needle through the loop next to the loop you first passed through. Continue to go back and forth between the lined up loops. For those who have ever sewn, it is very similar to a whip stitch.

When you have closed the entire bottom of the bag, finish adding another over hand knot, and weave the thread into your stitches a little before trimming off your thread. Weave in your tail, and you’re finished closing the bottom of the bag. The next step is making the loops on either side of the bag.
