Many wire artists are already familiar with Preston Reuther. If you have ever conducted a search using the key word "wire" on just about any search engine on the Internet, you will find Preston popping up. That's because he is a good salesman and active marketer of his wire jewelry business. He teaches wire jewelry making. He sells wire supplies, and he has been selling his finished wire jewelry for about ten years. Preston's latest project is a video lecture which was taped at one of his wire boot camps.
During his years on the road, Preston has managed to sell at a variety of shows from flea markets to large, wholesale shows. In his introduction, he explains that his seminar is aimed at the wire sculptor who wants to follow the path that he has already made his way through. He's "been there and done that," so he hopes others can now learn from his success and his failures.
This video seminar package consists of three tapes with two hours on each tape. So, the whole seminar is six hours long. As you can imagine, there is a lot of information to process. This is not a set of videos that you would watch one time. That's for sure. For a limited time, he is also including an e-booklet, which covers what he talks about in the video, and I found it pretty helpful. In the six hours, he covers a lot of questions beginners wonder about such as pricing, picking shows, booth and jewelry displays, wholesaling, and sales tactics. While reviewing the videos, I tried to look at them in two different ways: information for wire workers and information for general jewelry makers. I found helpful information and tips for both groups. However, as Preston explains up front, he has geared this seminar to wire artists who want to sell their jewelry at shows either part-time or full-time. Preston's seminar is divided up into a number of categories.
