Hoopla Over Hoops

Hoops are an important jewelry staple. They work with most outfits whether you are wearing a suit or a t-shirt and jeans. This variation on the simple hoop earring can help you create an endless variety of looks depending on the beads you use. If you are a wire person, you can even create your own hoop earrings first. (I know that Wig Jig has instructions for this on its web site.) However, you can also purchase an inexpensive pair of silver hoops and add your own dangles. For the sample projects pictured, I made an earring in shades of pink and one in shades of blue. Check and see what you have on hand, go to your local bead shop, or use an on line bead vendor and select various beads that are in the same color range. You can also, of course, mix colors to create a rainbow effect.

You will need:
1 pair of hoop earrings
choice of beads
1 head pin for each bead
round nosed pliers
flat nosed pliers
wire cutters

1. Start by selecting your beads. For the pink earring I used 5 beads, and for the blue earring I used 6 beads. Each is a different type of bead from large crystals, small crystals, round stone beads, and even heart shaped beads. You can use as few or as many as you want depending on if you want a simple look or a wild look.

2. Next, add each selected bead to a head pin and use the wrapping loop technique to create a dangle.

3. Finally, slip your completed dangles onto your hoops.

It really is that easy. Mix and match colors if you don't want to stick with just one color range. As you can imagine, with the right number of beads, you can create a hoop wardrobe that has an infinite variety of looks.
