Questions Answered

I receive numerous emails each week from readers of this site. Some times the messages are comments, but usually they are questions. Two of the most often asked questions are how to receive a link to your site and how to submit work to be exhibited in the gallery. In this feature, I’ll answer both these questions.

How Can You Receive a Link?

It is one of my goals to make this site the most comprehensive jewelry making web site found on the Internet. So, my philosophy is the more links the better. There are a lot of great search engines out there, and I use them regularly. However, often when I use these engines, I spend a great deal of time sifting through the search results in order to determine what are the "real" jewelry links versus the sites that just happen to have the word "jewelry" in them. Therefore, if I can get links from readers, that saves me a lot of time.

Currently there is no charge for your jewelry making site to receive a link from this site. There are, however, some limitations. First, and most obvious, the site must be related to the art of jewelry making. For example, it can’t be a commercial site that just sells jewelry imported from China. Now, on the other hand, if you’re a jewelry artist and have pictures of your work displayed on your site, then this type of link is very appropriate for the Artist section.

Under the Subjects section on the Jewelry Making site, I’ve created various sections for these links to fit into. If a link seems to fit into one (or more) of these topics such as Projects/Tips, History, or Wire, then this site is a good candidate for a link. On the other hand, if a link seems too commercial and does not have any information that I believe would be helpful to readers of this site, then I do not include the link.

Once I determine if a link belongs and where to put it under the Subject section, then I inform the person submitting the link. I try to add new links no less than a few weeks after I’ve received the request. When I do include the link, the requester is notified when and where they can find the link on this site.

Though a reciprocal link is not a requirement, it is considered good web site etiquette. The old "I scratch your web page and you scratch mine" philosophy is normal procedure on the Internet, but if you don’t want to include a link back to this site that is okay too. You can even use this graphics on your site if you want to.

How Can You Submit to the Jewelry Making Gallery?

The skill and creativity of the readers of this site constantly surprises me. The work in our gallery is very diverse and includes pieces from professionals to the hobbyist.

Just as with the link, there is no charge to have your work exhibited in the gallery. This is "your" site. It’s here for you to learn new ideas and also share your experience and creativity with others. So, don’t be shy about showing off. If you have a piece or two or three to display, send me an email along with an attached picture (.jpg preferred).. Along with your picture, please include any helpful or interesting details about the piece. What is it made of? How did you create it? Who did you make it for? Do you have a web site to link to from the gallery?

Again, as with the links, I try to include your piece no later than a few weeks after I receive the request. New submits are then announced in this site'snewsletter .

I hope this explanation has clearly answered these two frequently asked questions. Of course, if you still need some clarification or have any comments feel free to post them on the bulletin board or email them to me.
