Long, Long Lariat

The longer the lariat the more options there are for wearing it. With this super long lariat design, you can wear it in a number of ways. However, first you’ll have to make it.

You’ll need:

28 inches of chain
28 inches of 24 gauge wire
2 ½ inches of 18 gauge wire
15 - 5mm pearls
30 - 4mm crystals
1 24 gauge head pin
round nosed pliers
flat/bent nosed pliers
wire cutters
jewelers’ files

Note on materials: I used all sterling findings as well as sterling chain. Though the choice is yours, the chain I used hat one long and three small alternating links. My pearls are a dark gray, oval shape. The crystals are dark amethyst Czech crystals.

1. Use wire cutters and cut up your chain so that you have 14 pieces that are 2 inches in length.

2. Take your head pin, and slip on 1 crystal, 1 pearl, and 1 crystal bead.

3. Use round nosed pliers to bend the wire over into an L shape, and then use your fingers to curl the wire around the nose of your pliers to form a loop.

4. Slip the last link of one of your pieces of chain onto the loop.

5. Put the nose of your round nosed pliers back into the loop, and use flat/bent nosed pliers to wrap the wire of the head pin around itself. This is one end of your lariat.

6. Cut a 2 inch piece of 24 gauge wire and file the ends smooth.
