Square Design Wrap Ring

I still find myself making a lot of Wrap Toe Rings. Not only are they easy and quick, but since they are adjustable, they can be worn on fingers as well as toes. While looking at some of my rings the other day, I decided to try to come up with a new angle on this same design. Instead of curling the wire, I created a square design. Again, this wrap style ring can be wrapped around a finger or toe.

To make one, you’ll need:

round 18 or 16 gauge wire
jewelers’ files
round nosed pliers
flat or bent nosed pliers
wire cutters
ring mandrel
raw hide hammer

1. Cut off 4 inches of wire, and file both ends smooth using a jewelers’ file.

2. Use round nose pliers, and make a small curl on both ends of the wire. The curls should face in the opposite direction.

3. Now measure approximately ¼ of an inch away form the curl, and use your flat nosed pliers to bend the wire in a 90 degree angle.

4. Measure another ¼ of an inch and bend the wire again at a 90 degree angle.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the other side of the wire that should still be in the opposite direction.

6. Position the middle (straight part) of the wire on the number 4 of the ring mandrel.

7. Use your fingers to wrap the wire around the mandrel.

8. Finally, use the raw hide hammer to shape the wire around the mandrel.

The hardest part of this design is getting both ends to match. I would recommend making a few rings in copper wire before using sterling.
